Now Open in the Heights: Fegen’s, Space Cowboy, & Hungry Like the Wolf

Waffle and Syrup from Hungry Like the Wolf

It’s such a relief to see new restaurants opening in the Heights! This area is known for its unique businesses, and the newest eateries add their own special flair to the community. So, what are we in for? Put on your space helmets, blast some Duran Duran, and daydream about your favorite cocktails – we’re about to get to all the details!

Space Cowboy

Space Cowboy has its grand opening on April 23rd inside the Heights House Hotel located at 100 West Cavalcade Street. The hotel, which was ambitiously renovated by Jivar Foty and George Giannukos in 2019, became known for its artistic and culturally vibrant atmosphere. Space Cowboy is the perfect addition to the hotel, and the 2,000 square foot patio and adjacent 4,000 square foot greenspace next to the hotel’s pool are a huge draw. Not only does the bar serve up great drinks that remind you of the beach, but they offer a variety of island-themed foods too. Island-style wings and boba in a cocktail? Sounds good to us.

Space Cowboy is open from 4 PM – 2 AM Monday through Sunday.

Part of a Series of New Openings

The bar is the latest project by Night Moves Hospitality. Next up by the group? Trash Panda Drinking Club, a Southern-inspired modernization of the old Edison & Patton location on Edison Street. We’re intrigued, to say the least!

Fegen’s in the Heights

Located in the heart of Houston Heights on 1050 Studewood Street where Liberty Kitchen was once situated, Fegen’s offers Italian-American fare and favorites like mussels, juicy steaks, chicken schnitzel, and veal and pork tomato gravy with macaroni. If you’re looking for a good Neapolitan-style slice of pizza, give Fegen’s a try! As a nod to Liberty Kitchen, which was known for its delicious raw oysters, the bar at Fegen’s periodically serves raw oysters and other small bite plates.

The opening was announced by Chef Lance Fegen, whose resumé includes decades of experience working in restaurants like Brennan’s of Houston, the Houstonian Hotel Club & Spa, and Trevisio (now called Third Coast). Fegen’s opens at 5 PM Tuesday through Sunday and is closed on Mondays.

Hungry Like the Wolf

A restaurant named after a 1982 Duran Duran song has to be a cool place to hang out, right? Well, the whole restaurant is ‘80s themed. Finally, a place where we can wear our biggest scrunchies and feel at home! Even just browsing the menu is a blast from the past here, with options like “Pour Some Syrup on Me Pancakes” and the “Yo! MTV Raps Wrap” taking stage.

The restaurant’s décor brings back ‘80s nostalgia with old-school glitter tables, neon lights, yearbook walls, and a Rubik’s cube disco wall. Indoor and outdoor seating is also available. Hungry Like the Wolf is located at 920 Studemont Street #900 and opens at 11 AM Tuesday through Friday and at 10 AM on Saturday and Sunday. In addition, on Friday and Saturday nights, DJ Mike Snow expands the ‘80s vibes with his selection of classic faves you just can’t help but sing along to. If you’re thinking about visiting on a weekend, be sure to catch the ‘80s Brunch Party. And leave some syrup for us, please!
