Ho-Ho-Holiday Shopping Guide

Ho-Ho-Holiday Shopping Guide

The Nutcracker Market may have come and gone, but it’s not too late to squeeze in some festive holiday shopping at other local specialty markets. Galveston is home to two major Christmas markets that are worth the drive, the Seaside Treasure Festival and Home for the Holidays Market. The more intimate Seaside Treasure Festival takes place at Moody Methodist Church at 2803 53rd Street in Galveston from Nov. 21-22. The Home for the Holidays Market is held at Moody Garden Convention Center and is on a much grander scale than the Seaside Treasure Festival, similar in size to the Nutcracker Market. The Home for the Holidays Market takes place Nov. 28-29, so there’s nothing stopping you from hitting both markets on subsequent weekends.

If you don’t feel like making the trek to the island, check out the Winter Holiday Art Market held at Winder Street Studios at 2101 Winter Street, just minutes away from the Heights. This smaller market features a variety of art-oriented treasures from paintings to sculpture and photography, as well as craft items to deck out your home for the holiday season. A $10 ticket to the preview party on Nov. 21 will get you the chance to buy before the crowds arrive, as well as cocktails and light snacks.

Last but certainly not least, Tomball is home to an excellent German Christmas market, or Weihnachtsmarkt. This combination shopping extravaganza and cultural experience features German food, music, wine, antiques, craft and gift vendors, and kid-friendly games and activities. You can even take a ride in a human hamster ball, if you feel so inclined. The market takes place December 12-14 surrounding the historical train depot in Old Town Tomball at 201 S. Elm.

Whichever market you choose, you’re sure to leave with bags packed full of gifts and a high supply of holiday cheer!
