Food Delivery Services Racing to Serve the Heights

New food delivery services are popping up all over Houston, and Amazon Prime Now food delivery is the latest to join the fray. UberEats, Door Dash, and Grub Hub are among the other competitors offering quick delivery from restaurants that don’t offer delivery service. While the service zones are fairly small as of now while the delivery services get established, the Heights is fortunate to be covered by all of them. If you’re feeling lazy this weekend and don’t want to leave the house but also don’t want to go without Ramen, here are a few ways to go about solving your predicament.

Amazon Prime Now has a big leg up on its competition, because there is no delivery fee for Amazon Prime subscribers, provided you have a $20 minimum order. Service is available from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. and there are over a hundred restaurants to choose from. You’ll pay the same price as if you were sitting in the restaurant or ordering takeout to pick up yourself. Some of the most popular options include Hay Merchant, Southern Goods, Common Bond, Shade, Fusion Taco, and even our very own local Hugs and Donuts. There are restaurants to choose from in nearly every price range and food category. Even better, you can get $10 off your first order by entering the code “EatNow10” at checkout.

UberEats has been operating in Houston since late last year, and has a long list of restaurant options available for delivery in as little in ten minutes. Choose from sit-down restaurant favorites like El Tiempo and Mala Sichuan Bistro, fast casual places like Halal Guys and Little Bigs, and cheap desserts from Rita’s. A few food trucks have even gotten in on the delivery action! There is a delivery fee of $3.99 for all orders. Uber runs lots of promotions for new users, so if you’re a first time user, ask a friend for their promo code and you’ll get a $15 credit for your first order and for the friend who referred you. The only thing better than a dinner that doesn’t force you to leave the house? A free dinner that doesn’t force you to leave the house!

DoorDash started service in Houston this March and offers more chain and fast food options than either UberEats or Amazon Prime Now. There are plenty of local, family owned places on the DoorDash roster too, but if you’re feeling a burger from Red Robin or some Chick-fil-A, DoorDash has you covered. Heights favorites like Lola, BB’s, Cedar Creek, and Good Dog are all available for quick delivery, and there are many restaurants that offer coupons for $1-3 off your order. DoorDash charges a delivery fee of $2.99 and as of today, there are 264 restaurants participating.

Grub Hub offers a limited selection of restaurants for delivery, with a $2.99 fee for most options. Their selection skews heavily to Chinese and pizza places, which generally delivery already, but there are some standout choices, including Rainbow Lodge, Los Cucos, Caribbean Cuisine, and Mascalzone.

No matter which service you choose this lazy weekend, don’t forget to tip your delivery driver! They’re working hard, fighting traffic and dodging potholes, all so you don’t have to change out of your sweatpants. They deserve it. Now the only hard part? Deciding where you want to order from first!
