Fond Farewell to Zelko Bistro

After a dramatic few years of landlord disputes and lawsuits, Zelko Bistro, a beloved Heights dining institution, has closed. Chef-Owner Jamie Zelko will be opening a cafe in Evelyn’s Park in Bellaire, much to the dismay of Heights residents who had hoped she would relocate within the neighborhood. “For Lease” signs appeared in front of the restaurant in June. Zelko hopes to open the new concept this winter, assuming weather and the permitting process is favorable.

In the mean time, Zelko is staying busy with planning the new restaurant and her Heights Honey Bee Project, which works to restore the bee population in the area. Raw, natural honey served in the comb was part of the Zelko Bistro cheese tray, and will hopefully be featured on the new restaurant’s menu as well.

Zelko Bistro was a favorite of Heights residents, thanks to their inventive gourmet menu featuring new twists on classic dishes, and one of the best brunches in the area. Who among us hasn’t recovered from a night out over a plate of Captain Crunch crusted chicken and waffles? Zelko Bistro will be sorely missed.
