Drinking in the Heights has Gone to the Dogs

Boneyard

Looking for something new to do this weekend? Head over to Boneyard, the Heights’ very own dog park/bar hybrid. The brilliant minds behind the concept have thought of every detail to make even the most risk-averse dog owner feel comfortable having a drink with their canine companion. The 7,000 square foot dog play area is securely fenced and uses a double gate entry system to ensure your four-legged Houdini doesn’t make an escape while you’re sipping a beer, and there are ample pick-up baggies available to clean up the kind of unfortunate messes to be expected in such a venue. The indoor bar  feature a wide selection of draft and bottled beers, mixed drinks, and wine, all of which are allowed inside the fenced dog park. During happy hour buckets of bottled beer can be had for a measly $20 and draft beer and wine are also discounted. The park is home to a small agility course and a plethora of tennis balls to keep your dog active while you enjoy the shade and a cold beverage at one of many picnic tables.

Dogs of all sizes are welcome at the Boneyard, but your dog must be at least six months old and spayed or neutered to come inside. The crowd is much more social here than at your average bar, and chances are you’ll end up chatting with the folks at the next table over about your respective pooches. There are also a fair amount of young singles hanging out with their dogs, and you may find yourself meeting a few cute and available fellow dog-lovers while you’re here. The bar doesn’t serve food, but there is usually a food truck parked out front in case you start to feel hunger pangs and your dog isn’t finished playing chase with thirty of his new best friends. (Less social pups can hang out on the deck and stay out of the fray.)

The Boneyard is located at 8150 Washington Ave, just north of I-10. Hours are from 2:00-12:00 on weekdays and 12:00-12:00 on weekends. Don’t plan on bringing the kids, though; the Boneyard is a bar, after all, and visitors must be 21 or older.
