World Series of Dog Shows Happening This Week

The 38th Annual World Series of Dog Shows will take place this Wednesday July 15, through Sunday July 19th. Held indoors at NRG Park, the dog show is more than just the uber-groomed purebred parade you may have come to expect from the televised Westminster Dog show aired every Thanksgiving. In addition to typical breed judging and obedience events, the World Series will feature obstacle courses, flyball teams, Frisbee catching competitions, a dog grooming art show, agility exhibitions- even a dog dancing show!

Dog lovers will enjoy watching the show even if their pooch is more the mongrel rescue type than the show dog standard. In addition to seminars on dog health, training, grooming, and other topics, there will be a market for all kinds of dog treats and gear to pamper your four-legged friend.

If you think your dog has what it takes to participate in the show, bring them on Saturday and Sunday at 9:00 am for the AKC “My Dog Can Do That!” event, where dogs can try their luck at an agility course. No preregistration is required, simply show up with a dog over six months of age, proof of rabies vaccination, and a 4-6 foot fixed leash.

Tickets for the World Series of Dog Shows can be purchased in front of Halls A, B, and C at NRG Center or at Ticketmaster outlets. Admission is free for everyone on Wednesday. Thursday-Sunday tickets cost $15 for adults under 55, $10 for seniors, and are free for kids 12 and under. For more information, visit http://houstondogshows.com
