At long last, the Heights will finally be home to a sushi restaurant! Fat Bao owner Pak Tsui will open a sushi restaurant called Ka Sushi in the coming months. Ka Sushi will be located in the new shopping center at 1901 North Shepherd (home to Fat Cat Creamery) in the large corner anchor spot. Fat Bao is popular for their ramen and bao, taco-shaped steamed filled buns. Pak Tsui’s popular fusion concept has done so well that there is now a mobile outpost of the restaurant, Fat Wagon. This will be Tsui’s first foray into the sushi business, but local foodies have every confidence in his success.
Ka Sushi will feature an atmosphere tailored to the Height’s unique vibe. “When I think of the Heights and the times I’ve visited,” said Tsui, “it’s relaxed and a laid-back kind of neighborhood.” Tsui declined to compare his new restaurant to trendy sushi juggernaut Uchi, preferring to wait and let the restaurant speak for itself.
Ka will open in March 2015, assuming all goes well with permitting issues that have held up many local business openings as of late. Construction will start as soon as permits are recieved. Ka will feature a fully stocked bar specializing in Japanese beer, sake, and soju.
