Nightmare on the Bayou

Nightmare on the Bayou

Halloween is still two weeks away, but if you just can’t wait to start celebrating, you’re in luck! Nightmare on the Bayou is now open for business at Party Boy, located at 1515 Studemont. This super-scary haunted house is located adjacent to an old cemetery for an extra dose of heebie-jeebies, and is so popular it sometimes backs up traffic at I-10 and Studemont. The closer Halloween gets, the longer the lines are, so if you’re feeling festive, it’s not a bad idea to check it out a little early.

There are other haunted house attractions in Houston, but this is the only one that purports to be actually haunted, rather than just staffed by actors in creepy costumes. The employees are glad to tell visitors all about the alleged ghosts that haunt the premises. Stories of real ghost sightings are reported by visitors and staff. Who knows what kind of ghouls you might encounter?

There are two attractions, the Ghost House and Bayou Cemetery, and you can visit either one for $20 or both for $35. Payment is cash only and there is an ATM on site. (If you’re willing to shell out an extra $5, you can buy a speed pass that lets you skip the lines, which can be considerable.) The scares are so intense that pregnant women and people with asthma or heart conditions are not allowed to enter. Nightmare on the Bayou is open Thursday-Sunday from 7:30-11:00 and will be open every day of the week starting on October 23.
