Meet Ashley Day!

Meet Ashley Day, who came to Circa recently from another Houston brokerage.  Ashley tells us a little about her family and what brought her to our great City.

We moved here from New Orleans in the Fall of 2007. When Katrina hit in August of 2005, we evacuated to Houston. Our house flooded and my husband’s job relocated us to Houston for 6 months. During that time, we lived in the Alexan Heights apartment complex in the Houston Heights.

In the spring of 2006, we returned to New Orleans, rebuilt our house, etc. Then, after a year living in our rehabilitated house, we decided that we wanted to permanently move to the Houston Heights, after all.

My husband got a new job and viola –  we’ve been here ever since! Our kiddos go to Harvard Elementary, and we enjoy the proximity and ability to walk to school.  We love our community, and the kids are active in soccer at the Foster YMCA and at Hits Theater in the Heights.

In New Orleans, I practiced labor and employment law. After Katrina, I went on a work hiatus to take care of my children. (I was pregnant with #2 when we moved to Houston in ’07.) Once they started full time school, I decided that I wanted to return to work, but didn’t want to litigate/practice law.

I’ve always loved real estate – my mom and I used to go to open houses just for fun – and I always had a keen eye for the market. So, I jumped into real estate and joined Keller Williams Realty after obtaining my real estate license.  Just this month I transferred my license to Circa Real Estate in the Heights!

I’m thankful my new career has taken off so quickly.  I exceeded $3.5 million in home sales during my first year!  So far, it’s been a successful journey and it is so gratifying to help friends and neighbors buy and sell in and around the Heights. My main focus neighborhoods are the Heights, Garden Oaks, Timbergrove Manor, Rice Military, Oak Forest, and Montrose.

I have been a “walker” since my early twenties. I walk the Heights and its surrounding areas daily. For years, prior to becoming a Realtor, I would spot amazing sights on my walks but had no outlet to share the amazing scenery with anyone. Once I started working in real estate, it made sense to begin sharing all the sights I spot (with my dog NOLA, who is sometimes riding in my kiddos’ old double stroller) in and around the Houston Heights.

So, I created a Facebook page that chronicles my walks & sights in and around the Houston Heights. I’ve been having a blast!

The best this about Houston is the walk-ability (of course)! I like the hike and Bike Trail,Buffalo Bayou and parks. I especially like Proctor, Donovan, Milroy, Hermann, and Discovery Green. And of course, I like the Houston real estate market – wow!!

My favorite thing to do with kids has changed for me because our children are getting older. I miss all the amazing outings we had before elementary school started. When they were in Mother’s Day Out, we LOVED the Fire Museum, the zoo, riding the train and feeding the ducks at Hermann Park, the Health Museum, the Children’s Museum.

We still do those fun things, but just not as often. Now that they are older and our lives are busier, we love just hanging out in the neighborhood with friends – extended lunches at BBs, Cottonwood, and other Heights’ restaurants, or neighbors’ backyards. We also love the day trip to Brenham for Bluebell and swimming or a day trip to Alvin and the wildlife center.

Our favorite annual event is The Heights Fun Run – such fun in the community and kids can participate in the 1K – it’s just a blast. And the Heights Bicycle Rally and Scavenger Hunt is total fun for all! Both end at Marmion Park, one of my favorite corners in the Houston Heights.
