Lights in the Heights

We’ve had limited advertising this year due to overcrowding in the past, but I wanted to make sure that you, our Heights neighbor, were aware of our annual Christmas tradition.

Lights in the Heights will be this Saturday, December 14 from 6 to 9 p.m. on Woodland and Bayland Ave.  If you’ve never experienced this event, I’d encourage you to go.   The two streets are blocked from automobile traffic from Watson to Florence.  (It is being scaled back this year.)  Nearly all of the houses are decorated in Christmas splendor, and there are several groups of carolers, musicians, and live bands performing on porches.  It is a family-friendly event, and you might even catch a glimpse of Santa Claus as he makes his rounds to visit the good little children in the neighborhood.

Lights in the Heights was started 25 years ago by a resident who got the idea from a neighborhood in New Mexico that was fully decked out with holiday cheer.  It began  essentially as a block party along Bayland and the Norhill esplanade, and it was a chance for neighbors to open their homes, meet and greet.  It’s grown considerably since then.

We hope to see you there!
