Sawyer Yards will be hosting a pop-up market, art fair and festival this Friday night from 6pm – 10pm. The last of three Summer Series nights, the evening will include live music, light bites, summer cocktails and art of all mediums and styles. Artists from Sawyer Yard Main Yard, Silver Street Studios, the Silos at Sawyer Yards and Winter Street Studios will be present exhibiting their wares.
More Than Just Paintings
If the word “art” just makes you think of paintings, you need to head to Sawyer Yards for some art exploration! The works on display (and for sale) include photography, sculpture, ceramics, glass, mosaics, jewelry and more. You will be able to meet Houston artists and find out about their process and what inspires their work. Be sure to visit a few of our favorite artists. At the Silos, Carol Simon, in studio 207 and Jeanne Jones, in studio 112. Alex Wilhite in studio 9 is at Winter Street. (And catch Carol Simon at Circa Real Estate, starting in September! She’s is our featured artist, and a returning favorite.)
Art Community
Sawyer Yards has been around since 2005, when Silver Street Studio opened its doors in a former furniture factory building. As the years went by, new studios were added and Sawyer Yards became one of the largest art communities in the country. Located in the middle of an active rail yard in the First Ward, this group of transformed industrial warehouses is home to dozens of built-to-purpose art studios and galleries. Major art openings and recurring markets are not the only events Sawyer Yards has to offer. Public programs are regularly hosted in partnership with Washington Avenue Arts District (admission is usually free).
