Lady Gaga to Perform at Houston's Super Bowl Halftime Show

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard that Houston will be hosting Super Bowl LI on February 5 at NRG Stadium. While we obviously won’t know which teams are playing for several more months, there was an exciting update about the Super Bowl this week. The National Football League confirmed last week that Lady Gaga will be headlining the halftime show, following in the footsteps of legends such as Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, and Houston’s own Beyoncé

Lady Gaga is perhaps best known for her outlandish outfits and elaborate stage show, but anyone who’s ever heard her sing without all the bells and whistles can attest that she is an incredibly talented musician behind all the stunts and weirdness. Born Stefani Germanotta, Gaga was accepted to Juilliard at age 11, attended NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and has won for six Grammy awards. In addition to her vocal talents, Gaga is a talented dancer and accomplished pianist. After years of working to find her unique sound and hone her style, Lady Gaga gained international fame nearly overnight in 2008 when her single “Just Dance” was released. Last year she performed the national anthem at Super Bowl 50 and stunned those who know her only from her dance hits with her powerful voice. The NFL must have liked what they saw!

Lately Lady Gaga has starred in American Horror Story: Hotel and toured with Tony Bennet after the unlikely duo released a Grammy-winning album of jazz duets titled “Cheek to Cheek.” A dance-related injury and subsequent hip surgery forced her to cancel the remainder of her previous solo tour. Whether you are lucky enough to get tickets to see the Super Bowl in person or watch it on TV, this Houston halftime show is sure to be one you won’t want to miss!
