Katz’s Deli Coming to the Heights

Go find your favorite stretchy pants, because Katz’s Deli is opening a Heights location. The new spot at 2200 N. Shepherd will be the third Katz’s in Houston, joining locations in Montrose and The Woodlands. The ever-popular Katz’s is known for humongous portions of traditional New York deli favorites and never closing. When you need a slice of New York cheesecake or a Kosher sandwich the size of your head at 3:00 in the morning, now you know where to go!

If you’ve never had a Reuben sandwich, you’d have a hard time finding a better one in Houston than Katz’s. Not to mention the matzo ball soup, burgers, fancy salads, pastrami on rye, and their own custom version of a Monte Cristo, served on challah bread and spelled with a K, naturally.

Sandwich with a pickle

You almost certainly won’t be able to enjoy dinner and dessert in the same day, thanks to the aforementioned bonkers portion sizes, but dessert is absolutely worth a separate trip of its own. It’s been a minute since we enjoyed a meal at Katz’s, and they’ve since added a cheesecake sandwich to the menu that we are VERY anxious to try. It’s an entire slice of Katz’s famous NY cheesecake cocooned in a brioche roll topped with strawberry sauce, chocolate sauce, crumbled Oreos, and a dusting of powdered sugar just for good measure. (There’s also a cheesecake milkshake that contains a full 1-pound slice blended into sippable form. Our mouth is watering and our blood sugar is spiking just thinking about it.)

We can’t wait to get our hands on some loaded homemade chips and our fave eggplant parm hero without having to leave the ‘hood. The new Katz’s location is slated to open in Fall 2020 and we will see you there. (Probably in the wee hours after a night out. After all, “Katz’s Never Kloses!”)
