Heights Restaurant Renaissance Continues

Heights Restaurant Renaissance Continues

The past year has been a big one for restaurant openings in the Heights, and the boom isn’t over yet! The Burger Joint and Melange Creperie both announced plans this week to open locations in the Heights.

Melange Creperie is a popular food truck offering sweet and savory crepes, and the Heights location will be their first brick-and-mortar outpost. It will occupy a 1,400 square foot space in the new Heights Mercantile building on 7th Street between Heights and Yale, complete with a patio and private event space. Heights Mercantile will eventually host four restaurants, in addition to retail and office space, but the other three restaurants have not been announced yet. The Heights Mercantile site is the former home of a Pappas Restaurants warehouse. In addition to the menu of crepes offered by the food truck, Melange Creperie’s new location will feature salads, soups, sandwiches, aquas frescas, and coffee. The opening date for Melange Creperie has not yet been announced.

One of the many former car dealership lots on North Shepherd will be the new home of The Burger Joint, a Montrose late-night favorite. This location will be larger than the current outpost and feature more parking, a full liquor license, and the same menu of creative toppings and high-quality 44 Farms beef as the original.  The Burger Joint will open in Spring 2017. The original location of The Burger Joint is on Montrose at Westheimer, in the former home of Little Bigs. Owner Shawn Bermudez and chef Matthew Pak have worked together on three wildly popular food trucks (Koagie Hots, The Golden Grill, and Coreanos) before opening The Burger Joint. Some of the more creative burger toppings available include kimchi, onion rings, and even a vegetarian red bean and mushroom patty. Their killer milkshakes are flavored with homemade syrups and are worth a trip even if you aren’t a big burger person.
