Heights Post Office Has Moved

Heights Post Office Has Moved

In case you missed it, the Heights post office has officially relocated from the old spot on 11th Street and Yale to their new facility on 19th Street and T. C. Jester. While the official address of the new location is 1300 W. 19th Street, the drive-up drop box and customer entrance are located on the side of the building facing 18th Street. The new post office is located at the spot where 18th Street, 19th Street, and T.C. Jester all converge, so giving directions in that area can be a bit confusing.

The old building will be sold as part of a nationwide downsizing effort by the struggling U.S. Postal Service. The Heights is not the only Houston neighborhood to see a change in postal service facilities. Six other area post offices were either closed or consolidated with nearby locations, including the Downtown post office on Franklin Street.

Plans for the old post office facility have not yet been announced. Many Heights residents are not aware of the location change, leading to a stream of confused customers arriving at the old location to find the doors locked and lights off. Check back for more information on the site’s future when the old building has been sold. For now, don’t forget to visit the new office on 19th Street.
