Fat Cat Creamery

Fat Cat Creamery opened its doors on December 14 at the new location at 1901 N Shepherd Drive, in the new shopping center between Shepherd and Durham on 19th Street. Owner Sarah Johnston describes the product as straight-up, old fashioned ice cream, and the new ice cream parlor is cute, bright, and cheery, sure to be a birthday party destination. Fat Cat Creamery will feature at least ten flavors of regular ice cream (two of them dairy free) and two flavors of soft serve, with the possibility of more choices in the future. In addition to old-fashioned scoops, Fat Cat will serve retro ice cream concoctions like chocolate egg creams, cream soda, and other treats made from homemade flavored syrups. If you opt for a sundae, the gourmet treatment continues even further, and you’ll get homemade magic shell, house-made maraschino cherries, fresh whipped cream, and just-baked waffle cones and bowls.

Johnston spent six months developing recipes for the toppings and another two and a half years perfecting her ice cream recipes, so you can bet your first cone from Fat Cat Creamery will be worth the wait. Ice cream is her favorite food, but you could have guess that, right?  Fat Cat Creamery is open Sundays through Wednesdays from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m.; Thursdays from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. until midnight.
